Useful tips for students bringing a thesis/dissertation or art /media/fashion work
For all students.
Yes, I can bind a hardback version of your work. No, I don't do thermal or wire binding; for that you need to find a large stationery store or a printer.
Please allow as much time as possible. I cannot bind your work if you phone me one night and want it ready the next morning - even a bookbinder needs some sleep.
Thesis/dissertation.
- Ideally, please use 80gm or 90 gm paper - if you use paper of heavier weight the pages won't turn as easily.
- Please allow a left hand margin of at least 2.5 cm for binding purposes.
- Please bring a copy of any instructions from your university or college about the colour of the cover, the wording to be on the cover and spine and the direction of wording on the spine. If your university or college has any other special instructions about the binding, let me know before I start work.
Art/media/fashion students.
- For written work, please read the instructions above.
- Please be aware that art work on very thick paper or card will not turn easily although it can be bound.
- Please bring any sketches or notes about how you want the binding done and be ready to spend some time explaining your idea to me.
- If art work runs across two pages on separate sheets please leave a small gutter margin (0.5 - 1.0cm) so that the loss of the picture during binding is minimised.
- Folded sheets bind more easily than separate sheets.
